July 11, 2009 Dear Charles...

Where do I begin?

You are curled up next to me sleeping on the couch in the fetal position. You have been able to roll on to your side from an early age! You will be 3 weeks old in 2 days. I am glad you are sleeping now since today has been a little off for us and you have been tough to get to sleep and eat. Your Dad is upstairs sleeping as I got some sleep earlier today.

We love you so much more than words can say. You are an adorable, strong, little baby. You can already pull my hair and have had good control of your head since birth. You like being swaddled in a blanket, but also like to get your arms out and eventually your legs when you are ready to wake up. At your 2 week Dr visit you weighed 1 pound more than your birth weight. You also already grew a half inch.

Tomorrow my grandmother, your great grandmother Betty will be coming to meet you for the first time. I am excited for her to meet her first great grandchild. I am sure she will fall in love with you at first sight just like Daddy and I did. We love watching your face as you fall asleep or wake up.

You definitely have some happy dreams after eating where you smile big. We can see you are going to have the most adorable smile one day.

This week your Grandma Phillis will be staying with us while Daddy is in Houston working M-F. So far my mother, Grandma Lynn has been here helping. Every 3 hours we wake you and change your diaper, I nurse you, then Daddy or Grandma gives you a bottle, I pump for 20 min, then we try to get you to sleep again. You are a hungry boy and we are dedicated to feed you what you need! This is a tiring routine, especially when you do not sleep between feedings. We are trying to get you to sleep longer at night but we were not successful last night and you have slept a little too much today so we'll see how it goes tonight.

I'm so glad to have 3 months off of work to focus on you right now. I wish I had longer.
